About Batala Lancaster
Batala is a form of Samba Drum music which originates in Salvador de Bahia in North Eastern Brazil. Batala was formed as the European wing of Cortejo Afro (a style of Brazilian Samba) by Giba Gonçalves in Paris in 1997.
Giba is the maestro of the Batala sound, which he composed after the style of his home town Salvador, in Brazil. The music has its roots in African traditional music which found its way to Brazil and has been incorporated into Brazilian culture since.
Using this influence, Giba formed a 60-piece drumming band, called it Batala, and encouraged anyone with an interest in his music to form their own Batala group under his name. There are now over thirty groups of over 1,000 drumers around the world playing the same Batala rhythms as part of Batala Mundo.
Batala Lancaster recently celebrated our 15th Birthday with an adventure drumming weekend.

Galgate Scouts
Galgate Scouts provide friendship, fun and adventure to young people aged 6 to 14 in Galgate.
Our Beaver and Cub sections (ages 6 to 10.5) meet on Tuesdays at Ellel Village Hall, and the Scouts (ages 10.5 – 14) meet on a Monday at Galgate Methodist Church.
With too many activities to list here, we are always looking for young people who are looking to get out and develop skills for life!
For 14 – 18 year olds there are Explorer groups in the local area, and we offer opportunities to join our fantastic Young Leader Programme. We also offer places for those needing to do their volunteering for DofE.
It is not only young people who enjoy Scouting. We provide lots of opportunities for 18+ year olds to join us and volunteer. You don’t have to come every week and you don’t have to lead, there is still lots to do. It is good for your own wellbeing and it allows you to have a positive effect on young people in your community.
Don’t wait! Contact us by email at [email protected] or visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/galgatescouts.
We are excited about meeting you!
